Cake boards are used under each cake tier for support and for ease of transport. They are covered with silver foil enabling it to be used as it is. Some prefer to cover the cake board with fondant or icing to make it look as an extension of the cake and some glue ribbon around the base of the cake board to make it look prettier. Cake boards are a must-have for all cakes and sometimes even cupcakes. it will ensure that stability of the cake as you move the cake around, looks better than using a plate under the cake, and it's disposable. For tiered cakes, they are normally transported to the venue with the layers separated and assembled on the venue. The cake board under each tier ensures the cake layers will be intact.
